Question

Can you boil an egg in a kettle? Is it safe and does it cook properly?

I would think so. Pasta seems to work. http://www.thomasscott.net/iron/pasta/

That's just so wrong. With pasta there's nothing between your food and your limescale-encrusted heating element. Ugh, no.

People regularly would boil eggs in kettle at college. The college would provide a packed breakfast if required and that included a raw egg and many people didn't have a pan so boiled them in the kettle
