Bloglines is not perfect

I noticed today that if you happen to subscribe to my RSS1 feed in Bloglines, you'll see no entries made since February. I have no idea why this is the case, since the feed is certainly up to date.

And on a related note, I had to recreate my Bloglines account today, since the service had completely forgotten about me. I lost all my feeds, which was only trivial because I'd barely used the service. If I'd really invested time into setting up the service, I would have been peeved. Nothing like cutting off a user with no notice or explanation whatsoever. I assume it's because of inactivity, although it's only been a couple of weeks since I last logged in. There's no mention, either on their news page or in their FAQ, of account deletion.

Everyone else seems to be giving no end of praise to Bloglines. I guess my experiences are just anomalous and unlucky.

I am sorry to hear about your issues with Bloglines. I checked your feed, and it is now up to date. My guess is that there were no Bloglines subscribers to your feed. We only actively crawl feeds that have at least one subscriber, so that could explain why the feed was out-of-date.

As for your account, we don't delete inactive accounts right now, so your experience is puzzling. Could you have registered under a different email address perhaps, or requested that customer support delete your account?

My account's certainly been inactive for longer periods than that, between me finding bloglines and actually starting using it regularly, so I doubt it's that. Now, are you absolutely _certain_ you didn't ask them to delete it or anything? 'cos you know, it could be that... ;)

Hi Mark. Thanks for your reply -- do you search out all mentions of your site in the blogosphere or something? :) I'm impressed -- as you can probably guess, we don't get many CEOs round here.

Thanks for explaining the feed issue; that does make sense. I subscribed to it last night, so that would have spurred it back into action.

I'll send you an email about the account issue -- no sense in burdening the comments section with the nitty gritty details. But no, I didn't request deletion, and the email addresses are identical (and I still have the verification emails to prove it).
