I can think of no more appropriate way for BBC2 to commemorate their 40th birthday today than to preempt hours of their regular programming for live snooker coverage. Happy birthday BBC2 and well done -- you clearly have a well developed sense of irony.
Quite. I have always and still do think that an ideal use of the digital spectrum would be a BBC Sport channel, which wouldn't have to run all the time, but which would be a great place to put all these long tournaments without disrupting other programming.
And no whining about not having digital please - no matter how disruptive the switch is going to end up, I will be happy when everyone's got some form or other of it. Maybe then we'll get a 24 hour BBC Four.
