Stories of impulsiveness

I spent money frivolously today, on two separate occasions.

One, a really nice new mouse. Please don't ask how I can justify spending £46 on a mouse -- the short answer is that, er, I can't. It's a very nice mouse, though, and I figured that since I needed a replacement (my old Microsoft ball mouse went kaput last week and will soon be coming to a landfill near you) I might as well spend a bit extra to get a good one.

Two, a cheap graphics tablet from Argos. This purchase was entirely frivolous and impulsive, and came out of a strong urge to get a new gadget to play with (the mouse doesn't count, since it won't arrive for days). I've been wanting a graphics tablet for aeons, but always figured that it was a stupid purchase and would end up being used twice and then stuck in its box in the attic.

I'm pretty surprised to find out that this cheapest-of-the-cheap graphics tablet is actually quite cool, though. I've been playing with it all afternoon and it makes a passable mouse substitute. But where these things really excel is in graphics, so I've been rediscovering the artist in me (or at least, the compulsive lecture-based doodler).

Whether I'll continue to get a lot of use out of it, I don't know, but it does seem that, like a scanner, this is the kind of gadget that people are really glad they own when they realise that they need it for something.

It took some time to get used to using a pen on a surface while looking at the screen, and my initial attempts showed some abysmal hand-eye coordination. But after a few hours you kind of get used to it, and earlier when I attempted my first real drawing with it, I was amazed at the results given that just a short while earlier I couldn't even draw a letter O without it looking like a number 6.

Hmm, I don't like that mouse much... Matthew pointed it out to me in PC World. I didn't like ht buttons behind the scrolly and thought the side buttons should be one on each side... but hey, that's just my preference.

Fussy!

I like the picture of the hand... wish I could draw!

Even though I can't, I'd still like a graphics tablet I have to admit. Maybe I could learn how.

admitting stuff's easy. you just say "I'd like a graphics tablet." that's how.

How to draw, not how to admit things. Silly boy.

I can't draw from imagination. I can only copy things roughly but recognisably.

And I still haven't received my mouse so I'm paranoid now that I'll find it horrible after using it for the first time.

windows pcs sell more than macs in droves.... And like several said most people clearly prefer windows, or if they did not the results would be the opposite.

I'm so ecstatic Microsoft finally conceived something awesome. After Vista, Windows 7 was a highly needed comeback. I think the open source community's strength is making them raise their game.

I don’t know what to state except that I have appreciated reading.
