Finally on Farscape

Farscape's finished. I enjoyed it.

I admit, I've written way too much about Farscape on this site. Mostly, I suspect, to a tiny audience who aren't interested. Permit me just one last indulgence. If I ever post about Farscape again, it will be with news of its renewal.

Here's a show that never compromised. Never jumped the shark. Faltered and stumbled along the way, yes, but never stopped aiming insanely high -- and hit its target more often than not. Ended on a high, ended in style. Farscape was pure Farscape to the very end.

Some see this as a sad occasion, but isn't it really a cause for celebration? Four seasons is three and a half more than most good shows get. It's more than we deserve.

Thank you to the cast and crew of Farscape... the writers, the directors, everyone who made this insane, collaborative, Americo-Australian project succeed. For the millions across the world who watched your show, television is irrevocably changed. Thank you to the BBC and everyone who got behind the show. This fan campaign made history. And thank you, David Kemper, you magnificent bastard. Tonight, in every town in Britain, your name is being simultaneously damned and exalted.

And I don't believe that any of us -- not a single one -- would want it any other way.
