Why did nobody tell me webcams are addictive? How did I not know this useful piece of information?

The first night I brought the camera back home, I set it up on the edge of my desk, continually streaming video to a window on my screen and uploading a snapshot to my server every minute. I gave a few friends the URL, so they could have a laugh at it. I'd had some serious instability issues with the bundled drivers earlier when I'd played with the camera at work and I wanted to give it a thorough test at home, so I let it run all evening.

Which doesn't explain why I ran it again the second night. Or the third.

There's something bizarrely and inexplicably addictive about having a webcam, and I'm trying to resist its illogical lure. I can see this thing becoming a permanent fixture on the end of my desk, even though I bought it to take photos outside and I know there's no reason to run a webcam.

Maybe I'm a latent egotist? Explanations, please.
