That Friday feeling

Today started badly. Two ugly computer crashes before 10am, which I think - although I'm not sure - were caused by the new version of ZoneAlarm. If that turns out not to be the case, then I'll retract that statement, but for now it looks like it was responsible for some serious problems.

It's a nice day outside, though. And it's a Friday. So I'm still feeling good, at least until the next crash happens, and I have to go back to square one with the diagnosis.

I was looking through some other random weblogs earlier on this site and I realised that many of them put this one to shame, aesthetically speaking. (Well, content-wise too, come to think of it.) So I'm wondering what I can do to put a bit of a shine to this place, visually. I think I'll pull the latest version of POVRay and try to put together a better banner graphic. I haven't used POVRay in years, but I used to love playing around with it in the 486 days. Now, though, I suppose images no longer take several days to render.

Not sure what sort of image to try to make, yet. I could do the Trioptimum logo from System Shock, as shown in the site icon in IE and Mozilla. But aside from the name, chosen some years ago now without much thought, and a vestigial love for the computer games, this site really has nothing at all to do with System Shock. So I'm not particularly keen to use their logo (besides, it could be protected material for all I know, although the demise of the company that owned it probably makes that point moot).

On the other hand it looks cool, and I don't have a better idea. Where's inspiration when it's needed?

Update: Ask for inspiration, and it shall arrive.

Well, I haven't crashed since I uninstalled it. I think it was the culprit. Back to version 2, I suppose...

I keep trying to instil the notion into my users that the newest thing isn't the best thing by default. But they tend to download things they never needed all the time. Silly users. Running the world would be a lot simpler if we could just get rid of all the people.

I agree completely. You're looking at the guy who used Windows 95 until sometime in 2000. But when I see there's an update to something like a firewall, I usually assume it does something important... I guess if I appraised every piece of new software as if it were a Microsoft product, this wouldn't have happened.

Excellent job here. I genuinely enjoyed what you had to say. Maintain going simply because you undoubtedly bring a brand new voice to this subject. Not numerous people would say what youve said and still make it fascinating. Nicely, a minimum of Im interested. Cant wait to see a lot more of this from you.

my own mates and I are having precisely the same discussion in regards to this scenario.
