NaNoWriMo

National Novel Writing Month

For the fourth year running, in the month of November hundreds of participants will attempt to write a 50,000 word novel. Most of them have never before written one, but many will succeed. As the site says:

"Because of the limited writing window, the ONLY thing that matters in NaNoWriMo is output. It's all about quantity, not quality. The kamikaze approach forces you to lower your expectations, take risks, and write on the fly."

Great plan. So who's up for writing a novel? Seriously.

Update: I'm going to do this in November, but I'm also doing a dry-run right now, throughout August. Strike while the iron is hot, and all that. The reason being that it doesn't really matter if I fail the August test, and I'll be better prepared for November.

50,000 words in 31 days - if you think I can do this, you have more faith in me than I do.

Me! How exciting! Maybe I will. Have to start now though, obviously, and cheat, cos I'll be in the middle of my Autumn term.

I'm going to be writing my thesis this November, but I'm still sorely tempted to try this challenge as well. But I'm also tempted to use an earlier month as a dry run, because if I try in November and fail because I wasn't prepared for how hard it was, I'll have to wait 11 months for the next one.

Hmm, it's August 1st.

I'd better think about this fast.

Well I'm going for the dry run too.
'Sea Living' was my first idea - about a guy who discovers an Atlantean like world beneat the North Sea - but I've suddenly gone all apathetic on it.
Let the record stand that my first dry run novel will be called... 'The Power of Music' and it's about a Bon Jovi CD that, when played creates strange happenings. Why? And what does Jon Bon Jovi, if anything, have to do with it? Only Ken Holloway can discover.

Okay, I'm going for the dry run as well. 50,000 words between now and the end of August. Yikes.

Once I figure out what it's going to be about, I'll share it. Maybe.

I'll start writing tonight. I think there's a small chance I'll finish.

Oh, and August has one more day than November. So this trial run, rehearsal, or whatever it is, is actually a bit easier.

Neat. Maybe I'll try to finish one of my existing half-finished novels then...

Or should I start yet another new one...

Is December National Rejection Slip Month, then?
