Aesthetic developments

I've tweaked the banner graphic into a final state. One or two random comments:

• That's my doodly rendition of the Trioptimum logo, from the System Shock games, there on the notepad. Inspiration struck as I realised I could use the logo in a better way than just using it on its own. Doesn't this approach say so much more about the site than the symbol alone would have done? And I still get to acknowledge my source.
• I added a version number just for giggles. I haven't been keeping track of the versions of this site, but I figure it'd probably be somewhere around 2.1 now (version 1 being pre-MovableType), so let's make it that and keep track of it from here on in.
• I absolutely had to change the font used on the banner after I saw the same font used on a 'For Sale' sign on my street.
• I'm really pleased with how good the orange highlights look because I have a terrible sense of colour coordination. They do look good, right? Don't they?
• The image was created in POVRay. The only thing in it that ever existed in the real world is the doodle on the pad. I'm just a POV beginner, though. I downloaded the pencil and pad objects from the web and modified them to varying extents to produce this graphic.
• Allow me a brief moment of shameless self-congratulation because now I really do like how the front page looks.
• Now I'm going to work on getting every page and template - archives, comments, everything - into a finished state. Some bits of the site have always been a little rough around the edges.
